Question 3: What kind of media insistution might distribute your media product and why?
In this presentation we describe what type of media instuatuions would be likely to disturb our flim
Monday, 13 December 2010
Evaluation Question One : In what ways does your media product use , develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? (i.e of film openings)
1 : This is the title of our film "dont look back" , we thought of underline reprsentation to themes in our title so we were careful with our colour schemes. We used red to outline the letters to connate danger and white inside to connate innocnce. Black was used as the background as it reprsents our main theme death
2. This is one of the locations of where the opening was patly filmes its just outside my house but we used it because the house on my road look quite old so it would give a creepier effect to it
3. This prop is used for the little girl in our flim , we were inspried from the mask in the ring . This was orginally used in the opening but we took it out to add more mystery to who was in the wardbode scene.
4. A long shot is used in this bit to show the womens surrondings and where she's is going
5. For the style of our story we decided to give clues in the story in a newspaper format. We made the text glowing to emphasis certain sentences that gave hints to the storyline.
6. This shot helps tell what our story might be about , 'dead girl found in the forest" shows that it has something to do with a girls death
7. The camera rooms into to the font saying "young girl" in black writing . The colour reminds us of the death theme.
8. Shes the first character introduced in the film , shes young so she can idenfy with the target audience of the film.
9.Spcial effects on affect afters were used on to create the titles. This gave it a more professional quality to the titles

GarageBand
Myself and my parnter decided to make our own music , however I was unable to attend garageband due to other work commitments so Tamana made the music herself. We were inspried by the orpahnages music and decided to base our music on the sound of the music they have used as its creepy and builds suspense. In order to create the music a software called garageband was needed to be used. A variety of insturments were avavliable but it took her a while for her to find the one pasfic piano tune she wanted , she wanted to use this one as horror films usually have pianos in them and add a sinister feel to things . Tamana did not just use the piano in the tune she decided she wanted to use a drum beat in there also so she added it in half way to build tension for the scene. As the music comes near to the end a deep sound of a drum plays to show something is about to happen , this will play when my character is walking in the room. At the end of the music the drum and string stop playing and only the piano is left as my character is about to open the door and see the little girl. When the little girl jumps out a loud noise is played and then the music stops.

Production logos
Me and my partner decided we wanted to call our production logo : Crystal Clear Prodctions. We have an idea of how we what it to appear on the scene , we would like the colour of the writing to be white and the background black. It will shatter after being seen for a few seconds. We done this to create an oxymoron as the production company is named crystal clear prouctions and the logo shatters we thought that this would be interseting that the name contrdicts whats happening.
After effect
To make out production logo we used a softwear on the Macs which is called After effects. This softwear helps you to create openings for films with out filming anything.
Practice Test Lesson
Our first lesson using the softwear was Friday the 12th November where we were taught my the technition teacher how to use the softwear so that we are familiour with it and can use it our selves when making our proper production logo.

However we were told that we could come to study support after school every tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday to get help from the teacher's and create the final production logo.
Our idea for our production logo is for the words to be in clear white with a backgroudn light shining through it and then for the words to shatter in glass peices towards the screen and then for the screen to go black.
Behind the scene
Setting and Props
Settings :
For our setting the main place was my house however we also shot down my road and a park in Crystal Palace but due to some footage of the park scene missing we had to film the park scene in a different location in Croydon.
This picture is outside my house where match on match action shot is taken from side ,
front view of the main character (me) while rushing to open the door
This is my hall way , where the first shot inside will be shown.
The bang from upstairs is shown from this scene

This is my bedroom where the wardbode scene will take place
This is the stairs where the camera tales a birdeyes view and
overshoulder shot following the main character to the room ,
just as she's about to find the little girl

The exposure of the little girl takes place in this setting (the wardbode)
This is the second park we shoot at
We used props for both our main characters the little girl and the woman . We made the woman wear a suit to show she's a mature successful women compared to the immature teen that she was when her little sister was in the accident (this plot is learnt further on in the film). The little girl wears a mask to give a creepier affect to the film this prop was inspried by the mask the girl wears in the orpahnage
This is the main prop used in our flim : the little girls mask
Inspiration
A few films have inspired how we conducted our film openings , but the two main ones that stood out for us were the ring and The Orphanage and The Ring. This is because we can identify with both of the films as children and paranormal activity are both domintant themes in their's as in ours. The music in these trailers create suspense and tension in the scene which is the effect me and my parnter would want on viewers

Target profile
Target Audience Profile
Certificate of film : We decided to certificate this film as a 15 as their is some gory scenes and a little strong language used , however neither are extreme enough to rate as an 18. We felt to make it a realistic thriller/horror film we wouldn't be able to be certificate it as a 12 without people thinking that the certificate was inappropriate for the film.
Who will it appeal to ? : Well from the research I carried out all the teenagers said they enjoyed thrillers , so teenagers would be one of the main types of people we would appeal to. The thriller/horror genre is more of a unisex genre so its nor mainly aimed at boys or girls , its aimed at both which is good for us as we can target a wider audience. The pictures of the following to are typical people that this filmed is aimed at.

Michelle aged 19 , lives on campus at her university
enjoys watching thrillers and watching about avergally
about twice a week. When I asked her how and where she watches these films she said waits for them to come out and rents them from blockboster and watches them with friends

Gary aged 16, goes to college and has a part-time job

Age: When it comes to age our target is 15-25 years this is because we feel this is the most likely age to watch this film. Its not to say that older people cant but we just believed that 15-25 year old would be more likely to pay to see this film.
Race :The film will mainly be aimed to the English and the western culture because it will have qualities of a British horror film but we will try to get our film shown also in America to get the rating more high. Some films which our film will relate to will be "The Ring", "The Orphanage" and "The sixth sense" as they feature mainly children as a victim or the murderers. We have made sure that our film doesn't offend any races so we have featured a few races in our film such as Black, Asian and White characters.
Class and interests
We are aiming to target our film to middle-class to high class viewers as they are more likely than working-class people to be able to afford to watch the film in cinemas and buy it when it gets released

Analysis
Dexter’s Opening Sequence
Camera angles – They use close ups of Dexter to create a sense of power in his character which makes viewers feel more intimidated by him. Several close-ups are used when showing his skin or things that look like flesh/blood. This reminds the viewer of what the show is about- murder.
Sound - The music has a sinister tone that makes viewers uneasy. Sometimes you can hear the actions that are being done e.g. when he kills the fly you can hear it which reminds us of the premise of the show which is murder.
Lighting- The lighting gets brighter when Dexter reaches outside, making it look like he is transitioning into normal life. The darker lighting used when he’s inside makes his life indoors appear more hidden, suggesting he leads a double life. As the lights so bright outside it makes the scene look fake, whereas the scenes shot indoors appear more real.

Psycho
Psycho
This opening title is a very intense one that creates alot of tension and suspense to the film. Its no seeing of characters , music and colour scheme all represent the horror genre
In the opening titles of psycho no charcaters are shown , all that we see is a black background and grey lines dashing back and forth accompained by what sounds like sharp piano music. The fact no characters are used creates a mystery as we prapare for the unknown , which scares people the most not knowing what's happening.
The music featured in psycho is very intense , causing viewers to be on edge as it never seems to propelry settle down . Its sounds as if someones being chased from something creating an anixous and scared feeling to the audience before they have even seen the film. The music immidiately indicats to viewers that this is a horror theme , the use of the high piano creates the intensity of the opening credits
The colour scheme used is black , white and grey . These dennote just normal colours but connate underling representations in the film. The black connates death and danger , this are the two most dominant themes of the film and the opening squence gives clues on that by the black used in the scene. White can connate innocence , in this film people are potrayed as innocent as there trying to find out the mystery and are oblivious to what is going on. The grey shows the mysetrcial theme to the film which is supported by not showing the characters in the opening

Vertigo
Vertigo
Vertigo has a very unusual opening seqeunce as it focuses on an unknown women in the begnning then later the camera zooms into her eyes and see's what she can see.
It engages viewers as it creates suspense and mystery as we dont know who the women and why we are focusing on her. This immediately questions the reader and makes them more interested in whats going on making them want to watch the rest on the film
The colours in this film are simliar to the ones in pscyho but its more bright in this one. White , black and red is used . The white connates innocence , the black connates death and danger and red connates lust , seductition and blood.
The opening only consists of one character and her emotions in one scene. Her eyes roll suggesting she is scared of something that only she has seen but as viewers we have not . In alfred hitchcocks opening he dosent give away much of whats going to happening , for example psychos opening titles had no characters and this opening only has close up's of one women that we don't know. This is done to create myserty in the scene
